North Texas Non-Profit Rallies Around the Family of a Slain Richardson Police Officer

RICHARDSON (WBAP/KLIF News) – The family of a Richardson police officer killed in the line of duty is getting help with a local non-profit.

Officer David Sherrard was shot and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance call at an apartment complex Wednesday night.

Lieutenant David Swavey with “North Texas Guns and Hoses” said the organization has given officer Sherrard’s family an up front check for $20,000.00.

“Then at Christmas we give each child $1,000 and then they also receive money to go to college,” he said.

Since news of Sherrard’s death spread, there has been an outpouring of support from the community.

Swavey said there will most likely be officers from other departments throughout North Texas that may show up to support the family.

He’s coordinating with citizens and other businesses to find out how they can help.

“The sheer number of officers that are going to arrive, they’re going to need places to stay…hotels…feeding the population when they arrive,” he said.

Public donations to the organization in honor of Officer Sherrard that exceed $20,000 will also be given to the family.
