Plans to Build Protective Fencing Around Dallas Police Stations Moving Forward

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Dallas City Council is moving forward with its plan to improve safety at police stations.

Errick Thompson is with the City of Dallas and said Monday plans to build protective fencing at stations across the city are getting closer.

“We’re working on some options to get some initial fencing and it may not be the complete fencing. I would anticipate having at least a project underway within the next 30 to 45 days,” he said.

Council member Adam Medrano said he doesn’t care how the fence looks as long as it works.

“I’d rather be a fortress and have our community folks go through security. They have to do it at city hall. So, why wouldn’t they have to do it at the police station. I just think we have to make sure our officers are as safe as possible,” he said.

Last week, Dallas police said an unsecured gate allowed a man to enter the central police station parking lot where he vandalized a dozen patrol cars.

It’s going to cost the city $6.7 million to complete the project. Thompson said the funding is available due to a recently passed bond package.
