New Parking Garage Open in Historic Downtown McKinney

MCKINNEY (WBAP/KLIF) – The City of McKinney has opened a newly constructed parking garage on the northeast corner of Virginia and Chestnut streets in the city’s historic downtown. The five-story parking structure adds 310 spaces to downtown.

“Our downtown is now a destination spot with incredible shops, award-winning restaurants and great entertainment options. It’s a great problem to have that so many people want to come here, it shows we have something worth visiting,” said Mayor George Fuller. “However, we realize parking is often the first experience people have when they come downtown and we want to do everything we can to ensure it is a positive experience. This garage will go a long way in alleviating some of the parking capacity issues we’ve faced in the past.”

City Council approved a lease agreement with a private developer for the construction of the garage. The city will own the garage at the conclusion of the five-year lease period.

Visitors of downtown McKinney have even more parking options now that 200 parking garage spaces and more than 100 on-street spaces are available for public use at Davis at the Square, the mixed-use development at the southwest corner of Davis Street and McDonald Street. An additional 125 spaces are available on nights and weekends following the completion of the adjacent Playful Corp. headquarters office building.
