Freezing Temperatures Predicted Tonight: Overnight Warming Station Open For The Homeless

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Temperatures in North Texas are predicted to drop below freezing tonight, prompting hundreds of volunteers in Plano to work hard making sure the homeless have a warm place to stay.

Corps officer Captain Richard New with the Salvation Army in Plano, described the overnight warming station as a joint initiative between the Collin County Homeless Coalition and the Salvation Army in Plano. New said the facility is open when temperatures drop below 32 degrees or are predicted to fall below freezing.

With the help of roughly 300 volunteers, the facility normally operates from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., and can accommodate up to 100 people. A hot meal for dinner & breakfast are provided. New said the purpose of the center is to provide a safe place from the cold, to prevent hypothermia & death. The center is located at 3528 E. 14th Street Plano, Texas.
