Mesquite ISD and Texas A&M Commerce Partnership

MESQUITE (WBAP/KLIF) – Mental health issues for adolescents are becoming an increasing concern for Texas school districts. In Mesquite ISD the demand for services has been on the rise for several years.

In addressing the need MISD has partnered with Texas A&M University Commerce to provide post graduate counselors. The doctoral students serve an internship and meet with students and families in need of assistance.

Kem Edwards oversees the MISD family support center and says the “partnership with A&M Commerce was critical in meeting the demand for services.” She says the center sees “a lot of students suffering from anxiety, depression and trauma from the death of a close friend or family member.”
