UPDATE FROM RANGERS COMMUNICATIONS ON TEXAS RANGERS OUTFIELDER WILLIE CALHOUN
Surprise, Arizona—Texas Rangers outfielder Willie Calhoun was hit in the mouth area by a pitch from Los Angeles Dodgers starter Julio Urias with two out in the first inning of Sunday’s game in Surprise. Calhoun was removed from the game and attended to by Rangers medical personnel before being transported to Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix.
Calhoun underwent a CT scan as well as a further examination, which revealed that he has a fracture of his jaw. He is expected to undergo further evaluation on Monday. No other information is available at this time.
The Rangers defeated the Dodgers, 9-8 on Sunday afternoon.

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Major League Baseball Outfielder, Willie Calhoun has been taken to a hospital near Phoenix Arizona after being hit in the face with a ball.
The Texas Ranger was caught off guard Sunday afternoon at Surprise Stadium during a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The pitch was thrown by left handed pitcher Julio Urias in the first inning.
In a video posted on Twitter, 25-Year old Calhoun appears to have been hit on the right jaw by a 95 mph fastball. He then falls to the ground, with bat still in hand, then releases the bat and begins holding the right side of his face.
According to the Fort Worth Star Telegram, play was stopped for at least 10 minutes as Rangers coaches and trainers attended to Calhoun, who was on his knees bent over near home plate.
With assistance, Calhoun was able to walk to a nearby medical vehicle, taken off the field, and transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital. Rangers Manager Chris Woodward, left the game to be with Calhoun at the hospital.
