AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF) – Cities and school districts across Texas now have the choice to postpone May 2 elections.
Local officials and school board members are on the May ballot, but Governor Greg Abbott waived regulations Wednesday allowing the elections to postpone until November 3.
“I strongly encourage local election officials to take advantage of these waivers and postpone their elections until November,” said Governor Abbott. “Right now, the state’s focus is responding to COVID-19 — including social distancing and avoiding large gatherings. By delaying this election, our local election officials can assist in that effort.”
It’s not known what the state will decide regarding the May 26 runoff election to choose a Democratic challenger to take on Republican Senator John Cornyn in the fall.
