
DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Former San Jose Police Department Chief Eddie Garcia has been named the new police chief for Dallas.
Garcia was among seven finalists to replace outgoing Chief Renee Hall.
Garcia will be the first Latino to lead the police department.
He had been with the San Jose Police Department for 30 years including chief for the last four years.
Dallas City Manager T. C. Broadnax is expected to hold a news briefing on the selection but not until Monday after Christmas.
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson said that he hopes the people of Dallas will join him in giving Garcia and his family a warm welcome.
Garcia said in a statement that he is truly humbled by the thought of wearing the DPD uniform and working alongside such an amazing group of committed men and women.
Garcia’s first day on the job will be February 3rd.
