DALLAS – Unusually heavy snowfall is moving from the southwest to the northeast across North Texas as of mid morning; first ushered in by a mix of rain and snow in the Metroplex as of about 11 o clock Sunday morning. Snowfall was reported in Benbrook as early as 10 am Sunday.
Accumulation amounts have changed from what was expected as of late Saturday; Metroplex areas now expect an average of 3 to 6 inches of snow, with some totals experiencing heavier snow bands possibly to see higher levels remaining. While the ground and air temperature remain below freezing, snowfall could be heavy enough at times to build ground totals to several inches.
In the Metroplex, Fort Worth is expected to receive what may be the heaviest snowfall amounts, as the system moves from the southwest to the northeast. New information and expectations lead meteorologists to expect another possible round of snow showers overnight, leaving at least a dusting of snow across the Metroplex region by Monday morning. Officials suggest we delay any driving plans unless absolutely necessary. Especially if traveling westward, they suggest packing your vehicle with food, water, blankets, a tow chain and a shovel. Ensure your communication devices are fully charged, if possible, before departure. Let someone know where you expect to travel, and the estimated time of arrival, in case locating you becomes necesssary.
