ASSOCIATED PRESS – Thousands of Honduran migrants are headed for the United States, and clashing with Guatemalan forces this week. Those who escape clashes with Guatemala’s security forces will face Mexican forces next. The count is placed loosely at nine thousand migrants, fleeing starvation and violence; worsened by back to back unprecedented powerful hurricanes, leaving millions homeless months later, in more peril now, given the pandemic.
They hope President Elect Biden will renew the system allowing for immigration judicial decisions on whether their lives are in peril if returned to Honduras.
But U S Customs and Border Protection this weekend warns the American commitment to the rule of law, and public health, will not be affected by a change in presidential administrations.
President elect Biden’s team has indicated many immigration changes wrought by President Trump are being readied for changes, some quickly as the Biden transition takes hold.
