(WASHINGTON POST) – Ten Republican senator are requesting to meet with President Joe Biden to present their $600 billion dollar Covid 19 rescue plan, opposing the Biden-proposed $1.9 trillion dollar plan.
Americans would see Republican cash help to the tune of $1,000, as opposed to the Biden plan offering every American $1,400. But the Republican plan also caps eligibility for any Covid cash relief to those making under $50,000 a year; $100,000 for families.
Republicans, also not in favor of the Biden plan calling for the raising of the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour.
Significantly, Republicans assembled ten lawmakers to get behind the proposal; meaning, if Democrats were to join them, they could reach the 60-vote threshold needed to vote through the legislation in regular Senate procedures.
Democrats plan to circumvent the 60-vote requirement, using special budget rules allowing the BIden package to pass with a simple majority vote.\Democrats control the Senate because Vice President Harris can cast the tie breaking vote.
Aides to Democrats indicate the Biden team will move forward this week with the budget bill; setting the stage for party-line passage of the Biden Covid 19 rescue plan.
