Columbus, OH (WBAP/KLIF) – One of the country’s big shopping center owners has filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. Washington Prime Group owns more than 100 malls nationwide, including 3 in the metroplex: Irving Mall, The Shops at North East Mall in Hurst, and Richardson Square. It also owns malls in Austin, San Antonio, and Houston. Washington Prime says it was forced into bankruptcy because the COVID-19 pandemic left it with unpaid rent, empty stores, and steep declines in shoppers.
