KABUL – WBAP/KLIF – Afghanistan’s President Ghani has fled his country, leaving the Taliban in unofficial charge of that nation, even as the U.S. and allies work feverishly to pull citizens, dual citizens and friendly Afghans out of the country – a total of 10 thousand or more people. The Taliban has entered the capital city of Kabul and has managed to take over much of the entire country within a week or more.
President Biden is said to be considering ordering more American Marines and Army troops into the region to help aid toward safe evacuations; a thousand more troops were ordered in Saturday for a total of five thousand.
The pullout follows 20 years of war in which America initially fought to rid the region of extremists following the 9-1-1 attacks in New York City.
Canadian personnel are on their way back to Canada. Some 40-thosuand Canadian troops were deployed in Afghanistan 13 years ago, as part of the NATO mission before pulling out in 2014.
