Murfreesboro, TN (WBAP/KLIF) – In Tennessee, a teenager who spoke out in support of masks was teased and heckled by adults, during a Rutherford County School Board meeting.
16-year old Grady Knox talked about concern for his grandparents who are at high risk. He also said that his grandmother, a former teacher in the district died of COVID because someone was not wearing a mask. The comment produce laughter and heckling and moans from the crowd of mostly adults.

Video of the incident show some adults laughing at Knox who later told WSMV-TV that he thought it was disrespectful, but that he will continue speaking out.
The Rutherford County School Board would later issue an apology to Knox and invited him back to tell his story again.

The issue of masks has been very divisive across the country, as opponents say that mandates violate their personal freedoms.

Proponents of masks see them as a safety issue and a way to protect children who are being sickened and hospitalized with the Delta variant of COVID-19.
