Grand Jury Clears Austin Police Officers In Gunman’s Death

Austin (AP) – A grand jury has cleared eight Austin police officers for the late night shooting death of a gunman they were pursuing. In 2018 the officers were sent to a chaotic scene outside a nightclub where a number of fights had broken out, and shots had been reported. The gunfire seemed concentrated in an alley behind the club, so several officers went there to investigate. They found 21 year old Aquantis Griffin running out of the shadows toward them with a gun in his hand. Eight officers fired at him, and Griffin was killed. They were unanimous in their insistence that Griffin had disregarded commands to drop the gun.
