Dallas Man Lynched 111 Years Ago Receives Memorial

(WBAP/KLIF) — The Dallas County Justice Initiative is honoring a man falsely accused and lynched in 1910. A ceremony took place, Saturday, to memorialize Allen Brooks in downtown Dallas where the tragedy occurred.

Brooks was lynched in downtown Dallas on March 3, 1910. a memorial for the man now marks where it happened. The dedicated marker is at Main and Akard streets, detailing the incident. Brooks was a handyman falsely accused of raping a young girl when a mob of 3,000 men stormed the courthouse and falsely hanged Brooks.

Now, 111 years later, the martyr received a marker detailing the incident. WFAA says Ed Gray with the Justice Initiative noted there have been at least four lynchings in the history of Dallas, and the group has other events planned to memorialize the victims.
