FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News) – Fort Worth Police released body camera video and 911 audio connected to the fatal officer-involved shooting of an armed man earlier this week.
29-year-old Mitchell Davis called police on Tuesday and said he was on walking along Bear Creek Trail armed with a gun and was having a mental health crisis.
“I feel like I’m possessed, tell them to come quick please,” he told dispatchers. “And I’m going to hurt somebody. I have a gun in my pocket now.”
Three officers arrived at the location. The video shows officers approaching him.
Davis gets on his knees and appeared to cooperate before he reached into his pocket and pulled out what appeared to be a gun.
“Don’t do it! Don’t do it!” said the officer before at least one of them opened fire, killing Davis.
Fort Worth Police Chief Neil Noakes said the gun was fake but looked authentic.
In the video statement posted below, Noakes said the video showed the split-second decisions officers have to make.
“This is a very tragic chain of events that ultimately ended in the loss of one life and affected many other lives, including the family of the individual, the officers involved and the families of those officers, he said.
No further details about which or how many officers fired their weapons have been released.
The shooting is under investigation and will be referred to a grand jury.
