(WBAP/KLIF) — The 87th Texas Legislative session passed 23 new laws that go into effect January 1st. The majority of them deal with tax requirements or tax-exemption statuses.

Among the laws to be enacted is one allowing food service establishments to be reclassified as restaurants if alcohol sales are under 60% of overall sales. In addition, House Bill 2535 goes into effect, forbidding tax assessors from including personal chicken coops or rabbit pens in the value of a home.
State Senator Carol Alvarado appeared on WFAA’s “Inside Texas Politics” to indicate what Democrats are most proud of and reflects on bills passes that benefit education.
