Austin (WBAP/KLIF) – Texas AG Ken Paxton has until Thursday to turn over his personal cell phone records from January 6th 2021 — so says the Travis County DA.
In reaction to a complaint filed earlier this month, DA Jose Garza says that Paxton and his office failed to comply with the Texas Public Information Act. Several organizations are seeking Paxton’s connections to a Trump rally just prior to the US Capitol riot.
Last April Paxton’s office said the records in question fall under exempted under “attorney-client privilege.”
Paxton has been criticized from the left for joining the ‘Stop the Steal’ rally last January 6th. That rally was immediately followed by a violent takeover of the US Capitol during Congressional proceedings to aimed at certifying the 2020 presidential election.
On the day of the rally, Paxton stood in front of enthusiastic Trump supporters that the president “is a fighter” and that they must be too.
“We’re here. We will not quit fighting, We are Texans, we are Americans, and we’re not quitting.” During his remarks, Paxton slammed Republican officials in Georgia who affirmed then President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.
Garza says he will take civil action if Paxton does not comply.
