
San Marcos, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – Texas Governor Greg Abbott delivered his State of the State address last night before members of the Texas Legislature; members of the Texas Supreme Court; state officials, and to fellow Texans during a televised address from San Marcos, Texas, Abbott began the address by saying, “The state of our state has never been more exceptional.”
The governor talked border issues, education, the Texas economy, saying “Our $2 trillion economy makes Texas the ninth-largest economy in the world.”
He said, “I’m speaking to you from the manufacturing floor of Noveon. It is a cutting-edge business in the critical field of rare earth elements. They provide essential materials for things used every day like refrigerators, trucks, MRI machines, oil rigs. Even materials for ballistic missiles for America to defend itself.”
Abbott used the speech to name school safety a priority for Texas lawmaker, but did not lay out any specific proposals and reiterated a general opposition to new restrictions on firearms.

Amid speculation that he may run for president, Gov. Abbott offered made no comments about the possibility.
Meantime, Texas Democrats responded to Governor Abbott’s speech in a video that included comments from state and federal lawmakers, as well as Texans who said their lives were negatively impacted by Abbott’s policies.
The video started with families of victims of the Uvalde massacre, pleading with lawmakers to do more to prevent gun violence.
“We’re once again begging Gov. Abbott, please, listen to these voices,” said Democratic state Sen. Roland Gutierrez, whose district includes Uvalde. “It’s too late for these families. But maybe, if you show some political courage, you can save the next family from having to endure this kind of heartache.”
