Texas House Votes to Impeach AG Paxton, Trial to be Held in Senate

AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF) – UPDATE 5p.m. 5/27/2023

The Texas House of Representatives approved a resolution on Saturday afternoon to impeach State Attorney General Ken Paxton by a vote of 121-23.

The measure heads to the Senate where an impeachment trial will be held. The trial is expected to happen during special session. The regular legislative session ends on Monday.

The Attorney General responded to the House vote.

Original Post: The Texas House of Representatives’ General Investigating committee is presenting its recommendation to impeach Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on the House Floor Saturday afternoon.

The committee voted 5 to 0 to make the recommendation after a 4 hours long hearing this . During the hearing, attorney’s said former employees of Paxton accuse him of misconduct. The AG allegedly used taxpayer money to settle a whistleblower lawsuit against. he’s also said to have mis-used his power to benefit a campaign donor.

Paxton denied the allegations and encouraged his supporters to peacefully protest at the State Capitol on Saturday. The Texas GOP stand behind the AG.

Texas Democrats are also encouraging demonstrations.
