Crowley Couple Thwarts Kidnap Attempt, Suspect Arrested After Wild Chase

CROWLEY (WBAP/KLIF News ) – A North Texas man accused of trying to kidnap a child is behind bars after leading Tarrant County Sheriff’s Deputies on a dangerous chase.

According to the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office, 62-year-old Steven Bayse tried to snatch a little girl from her home on Lansman Drive on Monday afternoon but was stopped by the child’s parents before he was able to drive off.

The girl’s mother was able to get the make, model and license plate number of his car and deputies tracked him down.

The sheriff’s office said Bayse reportedly refused to pull over, stopping several times as if he would surrender.

He then began a chase in which he hit three patrol vehicles and almost hit a TSCO deputy, according to the sheriff’s office.

Bayse eventually pulled into a grocery store parking lot and was taken into custody.

He’s being held in the Tarrant County Jail on charges of kidnapping, evading arrest or detention with a vehicle and aggravated assault against a public servant on a $125,000 bond.
