
ERCOT issued a voluntary conservation notice asking residents to reduce electricity use from 3:00pm until 8:00pm Thursday.
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas cited extreme temperatures, forecasted high demand and lower reserves due to low wind generation for the request.
The Public Utility Commission of Texas echoed ERCOT’s call by asking for conservation.
Both entities report that while they are asking all government agencies to put in place programs to reduce demand, the power grid is not experiencing emergency conditions at this time.
An ERCOT Weather Watch remains in effect through Friday.
Excessive Heat Warnings have returned for North Texas after a brief retreat into the mid 90s for afternoon highs earlier this week.
Triple digits are expected for this weekend and early next week.
