MESQUITE – (WBAP/KLIF) – Mesquite Police shot and killed one car theft suspect, arrested three others, and continue to look for two more suspects, description unknown. Name of the dead suspect, not released.
Mesquite Police spokesman Lt. Brandon Ricketts tells us a lone officer working in the area of Faithon P. Lucas Blvd and Cartright tried to stop a suspected stolen vehicle. Ricketts says the officer noticed another, second vehicle appeared to be working alongside or following the suspected stolen vehicle, and attempted a stop. Six suspects in the two cars were apparently reluctant to stop, and Ricketts say it’s unclear if the suspects fired at the officer. At some point the officer fired at one of the suspects, who was killed; Ricketts says that suspect was armed with an AR pistol and body piercing armor. Other weapons were found in the suspect’s vehicle.
Three suspects were arrested, but two others fled the scene, according to Ricketts, and a manhunt was launched involving a state police helicopter and canine officers. No description of the suspects are yet released. It’s expected more details may be released later today.
