Homeless Organizations Prepare for Second Arctic Blast

A second arctic blast is expected to hit Dallas this weekend, and many organizations geared towards the homeless are preparing to help.

Mary O’Connor with the White Rhino Coffee Foundation says they’ve partnered with non-profit organization OurCalling to serve over 25,000 cups of hot coffee to the homeless as well as provide them with warm clothes.

“One thing that most people don’t know is that the average person will only survive three hours in subfreezing temperatures if they don’t have the appropriate clothing to keep them warm,” O’Connor said.

She adds that the community can help with this problem as well.

“Ever since the weather turned cold in December, we have had collection boxes at all eleven of our White Rhino Coffee locations to collect warm clothing, blankets and shoes for the homeless across DFW ,” she said.

OurCalling opened up an inclement weather shelter at Fair Park just three days ago
