(WBAP/KLIF) – AUSTIN, TX – On Friday, the Senate approved a school funding bill that promises over $8 billion dollars in funding for public schools. House Bill 2 increases the basic allotment by $55 per student, and provides over a billion dollars for insurance, transportation, and utilities. It also allocates $4 billion dollars for teacher and staff pay raises, and nearly $2 billion dollars for Pre-K, special education, and early learning intervention. The bill will have to go back to the house where lawmakers are expected to approve the changes, before sending it to Governor Abbott who has promised to sign it into law.
