WASHINGTON (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Scholastic Aptitude Test, or SAT, is going to look different starting next month.
Click to hear WBAP’s Chelsea Wade talk with David Kim, the CEO of C-2 Education:
The College Board, which is responsible for the exam’s content and design, said the new format is more representative of what students learn in high school and the skills they need to succeed in college.
The new test debuts on March 5.
Notable changes:
— One less answer choice. Instead of five possible answers, there will be four.
— Students will see more algebra and problem solving math questions, instead of a wide range of concepts.
— Calculators will be limited. They will be allowed only on certain math questions, instead of on the entire math portion.
— The essay portion will be optional.
— No penalty for a wrong answer.
— The top score goes back to 1,600 with a separate score for the essay. The previous possible total was 2,400.
