Dallas Mayor Not Confident Council Ban on Exxxotica will Survive Court Challenge

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings says he is not confident the City Council action to ban a sex convention from the city-owned Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center will hold up in court.

“I didn’t do it because I was confident judges would always agree with me. I did it because I represent the city and want to do what’s right,” Mayor Rawlings said.

The Dallas City Council voted eight to seven Wednesday not to allow the Exxxotica Convention on grounds the event would be too close to schools, churches and parks.

Exxxotica organizers plan to sue to the city.

Rawlings denied any direct influence from Texas oilman Ray Hunt who called for the city not to allow the convention.

“The people who influenced me were people who looked at me and said ‘What’s the right thing to do for the city,'” said Rawlings who also mentioned the Women’s Foundation.

“I respect the judicial process. I’m not saying what we’re going to do until this plays out,” Rawlings said.
