ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF NEWS) – Six Flags Over Texas is launching a new roller coaster for the 2016 season. It combines the thrill of the one of the park’s signature rides, The Shockwave, with virtual technology. Guests will wear goggles to get the virtual experience as they ride the traditional coaster.
Riders on the New Revolution Virtual Coaster will be transported to a futuristic battle to save planet earth from an alien invasion. Co-pilot your own fighter jet as you strap in for air-to-air combat. As your virtual plane ascends out of a secret bunker, test fire your weapon using the world’s first-ever interactive gameplay technology on a roller coaster. Then race through the city where you’ll battle drones to reach and destroy a mother ship..
Six Flag’s Sharon Parker says the New Revolution Virtual Coaster is “one of North America’s first fully integrated Virtual Reality (VR) Coasters, featuring technology by Samsung Gear VR powered by Oculus”.
Some of Six Flags’ most popular coasters will be equipped to allow riders wearing Samsung Gear VR headsets to feel the heart-pumping adrenaline of steep drops, inverted loops and powerful twists and turns as gyros, accelerometers and proximity sensors synchronize all of the action in an incredibly realistic 360-degree virtual reality world. The Arlington park is the first of nine in the chain to have the technology. The virtual coaster concept will also debut this year on the Superman Krypton Coaster at Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio.
Parker says “virtual reality is the next big thing and I think the fact the Six Flags is able to get in on this cutting edge technology, right at the cusp of its popularity, just speaks to what guests can expect moving forward.”
New Revolution opens to the general public on March 26th.
