Dallas Mayor Excited to Close Tent City

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings says he is excited about the plan to eventually close down Tent City.

In a statement, Rawlings says the first objective is to offer direct services, including shelter and housing, to residents of Tent City which sits under Interstates 30 and 45 in Downtown Dallas and runs for about eight blocks.

This is the first time an attempt to close the encampment is on paper.

The city has split Tent City into five sections to close individually.

Mayor Rawlings says we need to execute the plan in a safe and humane manner.

Up to 200 people have lived in the area in the past weeks.
