Cornyn, Cruz Push for Federal Aid

Flood 041816AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF News) – Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz said they’ll work to get a federal disaster declaration for counties hit hard by severe weather this month.

After Houston picked up more than a foot of rain, Governor Greg Abbott declared a state disaster for several counties. “The rainfall here is about half of what came down during [Hurricane] Allison. So this is not an Allison-type situation, but it is however one of the most significant floodings and rainfalls that we have had,” said Abbott. “In quintessential fashion, Texans have stepped up and aided their fellow Texans. They have literally saved so many lives that they can’t even be counted.”

Sen. Cornyn and Sen. Cruz said a federal declaration would help victims rebuild.

The request includes Parker County.
