FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) – Officials who run a commuter rail service between Dallas and Fort Worth are looking to increase the frequency of trips between the two cities this fall.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports there’s a possibility of a 51 percent increase in the frequency of trips offered by the Trinity Railway Express, co-owned by the Fort Worth Transportation Authority and the Dallas Area Rapid Transit.
The service offers 46 trains on a typical weekday, but there are times when the wait for a train is up to two hours. Officials believe those gaps, and the fact that on most evenings the trains stop running before many restaurants close, have contributed to a ridership drop.
The expanded service isn’t scheduled to begin till October, and hasn’t yet been approved by groups’ boards.
