Dallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – Non-profits and friends of fallen officers have launched projects to raise money for the families of the officers killed in Dallas last week.
In Farmers Branch Sunday, friends of a daughter of Sergeant Michael Smith held a fundraiser outside an ACE Hardware Store.
“It’s very strange to live a national news story. It’s uncomfortable; it’s horrific,” says organizer Gillian Norman.
Norman says the Victoria Smith’s friends had known each other for years. They were in the same Girl Scout troupe.
“They had been together for nine years,” Norman says. “It’s very therapeutic for the girls to help the family. It’s their way of grieving.”
The Assist the Officer Foundation is accepting donations on behalf of the Dallas Police Department and DART police. The Line of Duty Fund is also taking donations.
For Smith’s family, Mary Immaculate Church in Farmers Branch will also accept donations on the family’s behalf.
