AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF News) – Lawmakers will try and ban red light cameras in the upcoming legislative session.
Multiple bills have been filed to ban or limit the use of traffic cameras in the state, with the exception of those used by tollways and police officers.
Cities have the power to enforce the rules on the cameras and numerous statewide bills attempting to ban red-light cameras failed.
According to the Dallas Morning News, supporters said the cameras help decrease fatal traffic accidents, but some studies show the cameras cause an increase in rear-end accidents.
The City of Arlington banned red light cameras last year.
