FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News) – A two-alarm fire at a Benbrook apartment complex left one person dead and another two injured.
The fire broke out just after midnight at the St. Nicholas Place Apartments on Williams Road near just west of Benbrook Highway.
The Benbrook Fire Department’s Chief Tommy Davis said two people had to jump out of a window to get to safety because they had no other choice.
“Their front doors was blocked by the fire. So, they weren’t able to get out through that way. They took the easiest way out they could, which was through the front window,” said Davis.
When firefighters arrived, the flames were already shooting through the roof. Davis said firefighters had to go into defensive mode to put out the blaze but the damage to the complex had been done.
“About eight units were damaged by fire or water. There are an additional four units probably that have heavy smoke damage as well,” said Davis.
The fire displaced about 16 to 20 people. The Red Cross arrived on scene to help out affected residents.
