DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — Travelers at DFW Airport are feeling the effects of the winter storms plaguing the Northeast.
Thousands of flights have been canceled nationwide since the weekend. On Tuesday alone, as of 11:30 am, nearly 6,000 had been cancelled.
On top of that, many North Texans are traveling for Spring Break this week.
“The volume of travelers coming through the airport is greater,” said DFW Airport’s Cynthia Vega. “But it doesn’t impact the airport as much as it impacts new travelers.”
She says with technology like apps and alerts to let travelers know their flight status, the airport itself isn’t as packed with people as it could be.
Though, she says if you are flying anywhere — not just the Northeast — you need to be proactive about checking for cancellations or delays.
“If you’re departing from DFW Airport, go ahead and stay in touch with your airline, find out if your plane is on time, if your flight is delayed or canceled,” Vega said. “We are equipped to handle much more than we do on a daily basis. Our staffing and TSA checkpoints are all open and moving people through.”
