DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Democratic Congressman Robert “Beto” O’Rourke plans a campaign announcement in El Paso tomorrow and sounds as if he’s ready to challenge Republican Senator Ted Cruz for his Senate seat next year. O’Rourke would come in as an underdog against the well-known former GOP presidential candidate, but insists the incumbent is beatable. CNN quoted O’Rourke as saying “I think that national profile highlights the fact that he’s been running for president for four years while he should have been serving the people in Texas”
Beto O’Rouke is not the only challenger Cruz could face in 2018. U-S House Democratic Representative Joaquin Castro of San Antonio has also been considering a run against Cruz and is expected to make his decision sometime in April.
Cruz’s campaign has yet to comment.
