Dallas, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – Two U.S. lawmakers from Texas took part in an MLK panel discussion on violence Monday.
Senator Ted Cruz and Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson both talked about the need for unity and communication as a way to solve a myriad of societal and other problems.
Cruz told the crowd of over 14-hundred gathered at Gilley’s Southside Music Hall, that he hoped the discussion will lead to “people coming together in good faith and good spirit to solve problems as unified and one.”
The conservative Senator also recalled the inspirational vision of Martin Luther King’s speech as one that was meant to “bring us together.”
Representative Johnson talked unity, as well as the need for communication and for different groups to talk out their difference.

The event was organized by the Dallas-based non-profit Urban Specialists. CEO Bishop Omar Jahwar, (pictured below 2nd from left) noted the significance of the Republican and Democratic lawmakers in the room.
“You cannot build anything with only separate agendas. At some point the human agenda has to supercede your personal agenda.”
Over 2-dozen panelists participated in the event. Watch full video here.
