FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News) – A Fort Worth man tied to the viral arrest of Jacqueline Craig and her daughters on December 21, 2016 was found guilty of assault in a municipal courtroom Wednesday afternoon.
Itamar Vardi was found guilty of assaulting Craig’s 8-year-old son for allegedly littering on his lawn.
Prosecutors said Vardi grabbed the boy by the neck aggressively during the incident.
Craig called police about the assault and was eventually arrested in a viral incident that was captured on the responding officer, William Martin’s, bodycam.
Martin was suspended and Craig filed a lawsuit against the City of Fort Worth.
The incident sparked a national outcry about incidents of police brutality against the African-American community.
Vardi testified during his trial and admitted to touching the child but denies that it was done aggressively.
The judge sentenced Vardi $569 fine, community service and six months deferred adjudication.
