Texas Trump Campaign Chair Expects Peaceful Transition

Dallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – While Donald Trump has drawn attention for comments about how he would respond to a close election, his campaign manager in Texas says he expects a peaceful transition.

“There’s no question in my mind that after all that dust settles that we have the peaceful transition as we always do in this country,” says Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick.

Patrick says polls show races in states like Florida, North Carolina and Ohio may favor Clinton but are within the margin of error. Patrick says he suspects Trump simply meant that he would reserve his right to challenge results in a close election.

“I think what he was saying is if we have another Florida, where it comes down to one state, and this election could come down to one state, and there’s any thought of voter fraud, I’m going to have it investigated and make sure this election is fair,” Patrick says.

Patrick says he had not heard Trump’s most recent comments. In Ohio, Trump said, “Bottom line, we’re going to win.”

“Of course, I would accept a clear election result,” Trump said. “But I would also reserve my right to contest or file a challenge in the case of a questionable result.”

Patrick says some Democrats refused to recognize George W. Bush as president.

“If Donald Trump wins, trust me, there will be a lot her supporters who will not accept him,” Patrick says. “I hope they will also join the peaceful transition. I think it’s much ado about nothing.”
