Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – A San Antonio nonprofit organization that honors fallen first responders by building special wooden chairs in their honor has presented a chair to the DART Police Department.
The organization, Saving a Hero’s Place, presented the honor chair at DART Police Headquarters for DART Police Officer Brent Thompson as a way to keep Thompson’s memory alive and to “save their place” at roll call.
Thompson was the first DART police officer killed in the line of duty almost three years ago on July 7, 2016 after a protest march in downtown Dallas turned violent. His heroism led to President Donald Trump posthumously presenting him on May 22 with a Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor.
Thompson’s family in was in attendance for the presentation.
The honor chair will be placed in Thompson’s memory where roll call is held each day at police headquarters.
