Washington (WBAP/KLIF) – President Trump has reportedly told hospitals to send data on coronavirus patients to the Trump administration instead of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The move takes effect today (Wednesday 7/15/2020), according to a new guidance quietly posted on the Department of Health and Human Services website.
Michael Caputo with HHS confirmed the change, telling ‘The Hill’ that the CDC’s system for gathering hospital data is inadequate, and that a “new faster and complete data system” will be implemented.
He says that the CDC will participate, but no longer control it.
Meantime, in a Washington Post op-ed, four former CDC directors called efforts to disregard CDC guidelines a ‘tragic indictment” of the agency’s efforts.’
“We ran the CDC. No president ever politicized its science the way Trump has. The administration is undermining public health.”
Authors of the piece include: Doctors Tom Frieden, Jeffrey Koplan, David Satcher and Richard Besser, served in both Republican and Democratic administrations for a combined 15 years.
