DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – 99 police officers in Dallas have quit or retired since October.
Only 30 people have been hired for the next academy class that gets underway in February.
During a Public Safety Committee meeting Monday, Interim Police Chief David Pughes told council members they had hoped to have 60 new people in the class.
The Dallas Morning News said the department is down to 3,252 officers, which is below the desired level of 3,500.
The department hopes to hire 449 officers over the next year.
