DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson said this week that he’s disappointed but not surprised by Uber’s announcement to significantly reduce the number of employees at its office in Deep Ellum.
Uber blamed impacts of the COVID pandemic on its decision to cut back plans for 3,000 employees in Dallas to about 500. The company said that it will concentrate on core mobility and delivery platforms.
“Throughout the last year and a half, Uber has been an excellent partner to the city. We are heartened that Uber remains committed to Dallas and to employing hundreds of people in our city center,” Mayor Johnson said. We expect to continue working together in the years ahead as we build for the future and make Dallas an internationally recognized hub for innovation and entrepreneurship.”
The announcement means Uber will miss out on $30 million of incentives.
