Texas (WBAP/KLIF) – While COVID-19 vaccinations have increased in recent weeks, the Delta variant continues to spread like wildfire among the unvaccinated in Texas. The viral load of the Delta variant is 1000x greater than the original COVID-19 virus, attributing to its rapid spread.
According to an analysis of state data by the Texas Tribune, the two main groups that remain unvaccinated across Texas are white conservatives in rural areas, along with Hispanic and blacks in big cities.
Also among the unvaccinated are 5-million children, many of whom are not yet eligible for the vaccine.
Overall, about 9-million vaccine-eligible Texans have not gotten the shot.
Some of the key findings of the Texas Tribune analysis:
“In Texas’ largest counties — Harris, Dallas, Tarrant, Bexar and Travis — neighborhoods with the highest proportions of Black and Hispanic populations are some of the least vaccinated areas.
Neighborhoods with median incomes below the county’s median income also hold vaccination rates lower than that of the county’s.
Rural counties have consistently lagged behind the state’s fully vaccinated rate.”
Just over 50% of texas are fully vaccinated, according to state health officials.
