TARRANT COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF News) – A North Texas agency that makes sure its most vulnerable citizens have enough food to eat will be temporarily suspend its services due to the upcoming winter storm.
Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County will be closed Thursday and Friday, February 3-4, to ensure the safety of their volunteers and staff as icy conditions blanket the region.
The service’s Jordan Lyle said its recipients, who are mostly senior citizens and the disabled, have been getting items to prepare them for winter weather.
“Throughout the year, the agency delivers emergency shelf-stable meals to their clients to ensure they have the food they need until normal meal delivery can safely resume,” he said.
Meals on Wheels TC clearly marks those items for emergency use and each contains a reminder to save the meal for bad weather days or when the agency is closed.
Lyle said the agency also delivered additional shelf-stable meals to each client last week.
Despite the temporary closing, the agency will keep an eye on its clients and urges the community to do the same.
“Meals on Wheels would like to remind the general public to touch base with their neighbors prior to the upcoming winter storm, especially for those who live next to someone who is elderly, disabled or isolated,” said Lyle.
Anyone who finds themselves in an emergency should call 911 for help.
