Mesquite, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – An investigation has been launched at mesquite i-s-d after a student was served moldy cheese at school.
According to the district, it happened at Wooley Middle School on Thursday when a classroom aide noticed a student eating the Land o’ Lakes brand cheese cubes covered with green mold and immediately took them away.
The individually wrapped packets were marked to expire in April. All remaining packages were pulled and the district’s Food and Nutrition staff is looking into the matter.
In an email to our media partner WFAA-TV, the district wrote, “Our FNS staff are investigating the issue with the help of the manufacturer to determine why cheese would become moldy prior to the expiration date.” According to the district, the packaging makes it difficult to see the cheese without opening it.
The student was taken to a nurse’s office. Their parent’s were called to pick them up from school, and is “okay,” according to the station.
