MESQUITE (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Mesquite ISD officials said a Horne High School student brought a gun to campus on the first day of classes on Monday, August 7.
According to a release, the weapon was found amid the district’s enforcement of a new clear bag policy. Police confiscated the gun and took the student into custody.
“Clear backpacks are not a single solution to ensure campus safety; however, today’s incident shows they can be an important part of a multi-layered safety plan,” the release said.
The district said it was unaware of any other threats made to anyone on campus in connection with the incident.
Officials said the student will be disciplined according to the student code of conduct but did not specify if any criminal charges will be filed.
