(WBAP/KLIF) — An accidental shooting takes the life of a North Texas toddler.

It’s a part of the job that police officers dread…responding to a call of a young child playing with a loaded gun, culminating in a deadly result. Arlington Police spokesman Tim Ciesco says officers arrived at a home early Tuesday morning to find a mother holding 2-year-old Rio Carrington in her arms.
Investigators say the young boy was in a teenage sibling’s room, when he found a loaded firearm and accidentally shot himself in the face at around 12:30 a.m. The incident occurred in a home within a mile of James Bowie High School. An adult and four children were in the home at the time of the shooting.
Police have made no arrests in the case are looking into where the gun came from and how it got into the home. Ciesco says the incident could have easily been prevented. He encourages gun owners to secure firearms in a safe place to prevent similar tragedies.
