(WBAP/KLIF) — For the eight year in a row, MedStar paramedics and EMT’s will wear pink medical gloves during the month of October. According to spokesman Matt Zavadsky, 1 out of 8 U.S. women are affected by breast cancer, with more than 43,000 expected to lose their lives in 2022.
In addition, the ailment also affects the opposite sex, as over 500 men are estimated to die from breast cancer this year. Zavadsky says the pink gloves also spark conversations giving paramedics an opportunity to encourage breast cancer screenings.
Next to skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer affecting women in the United States. Zavadsky also says a portion of the gloves’ cost is donated to breast cancer research.
